The conference, organized by the DFG Research Group "post growth societies" and the German Sociological Association (DGS), proceeds from Karl Polanyis diagnosis of a Great Transformation and aims to take a closer look at how dominant growth patterns, forms of production, and lifestyles can be transformed. During the conference both current research about social drivers, barriers and dynamics of growth as well as alternative development options will be discussed with a special focus on the topic of digitization. Among others, keynotes will be held by Branko Milanović (New York, US), Joan Tronto (Minneapolis, US) James K. Galbraith (Austin, US), Gurminder K. Bhambra (Sussex, GB), and Jason W. Moore (Binghamton, US).

In the context of profound change, researchers and practitioners frequently address the role of cooperatives. At the conference, mainly two sessions will focus on cooperatives and their potentials for a societal transformation towards a post growth society:

• Forum Cooperative Action in the Platform Economy. Potentials and Limits of an Old Idea with a New Livery. A dialog between theory and practice | Thursday, 26.09.2019; 3:00 - 5:30 p.m.

  The panel will connect two lines of discussions: on the one hand, the debate about the platform economy and its disruptive potential; on the other hand the re-discovery of cooperatives as a democratic business model. By bringing hands-on experience and theoretical conceptualizations into dialog, the panel aims at discussing the possibilities and limits of cooperatization of the platform economy.

In der letzten Septemberwoche findet die Konferenz „Great Transformation: die Zukunft moderner Gesellschaften” in Jena statt. Santje Kludas wird dort platforms2share in einem Panel vertreten und über die Rolle von Genossenschaften in der Plattformökonomie berichten.

Die Konferenz "Great Transformation: Die Zukunft moderner Gesellschaften" wird von der DFG-Kollegforscher_innengruppe “Postwachstumsgesellschaften" und der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Soziologie ausgerichtet. Sie greift Karl Polanyis Diagnose einer Great Trans­for­mation auf und wirft einen genaueren Blick auf die aktuell dominanten Wachstumsparadigmen, Produktionsweisen und Lebensstile und fragt wie diese transformiert werden könnten.  Während der Konferenz werden For­schungsergebnisse zu den Treibern, Hemmnisse und Dynamiken des Wachstums vorgestellt als auch alternative Entwicklungspfade mit Fokus auf die Digitalisierung diskutiert.  Neben anderen werden Branko Milanović (New York, US), Joan Tronto (Minneapolis, US) James K. Galbraith (Austin, US), Gurminder K. Bhambra (Sussex, GB) und Jason W. Moore (Binghamton, US) Keynotes halten.

Im Kontext grundlegender Veränderungsprozesse, thematisieren ForscherInnen und PraktikerInnen regelmäßig die Rolle von Genossenschaften. Auch auf der Konferenz widmen sich zwei Sessions der Frage, welche Potentiale Genossenschaften für eine Postwachstumsgesellschaft haben:

Indem praktische Erfahrungen und theoretische Konzeptualisierungen in einen Dialog treten, sollen in der Veranstaltung Besonderheiten, Möglichkeiten und Grenzen einer Vergenossenschaftlichung der Plattformökonomie diskutiert werden.
